Hello, my dear friend!!!
I was recently invited to be a guest on my buddy (and fellow author) Aaron Hall’s podcast, Book Nook, where we talked about where my inspiration to write came from. I reflected with him back on my times in middle school where I spent nearly every single recess playing “pretend” with my buddies. There was never really an official word for it back then but I know now what we were actively participating in is formally known as LARPing (or live action role playing).
I was obsessed with this—I even “played pretend” at home alone OFTEN. When everyone else phased out of it (too cool for school—boring!!! totally joking, but I was tormented for my interests, okay, I can make jokes back at them now 😉), I still enjoyed it but was shunned and made fun of for my interest in doing so (middle school people were not too kind, judgey folks dare I say 😜). Not willing to give up on my passion of “playing pretend”, I turned to writing. Instead of playing out my adventures at recess, I quietly wrote them out in a journal, which over time turned into what is now present day Sacred!!
I’d never really thought about this too much until I talked with Aaron, and it really made me realize just how much of an impact those moments of “playing pretend” really shaped my love for writing and creating and still playing those roles in a different fashion. It’s funny how we never truly grow out of things, isn’t it? And I’m so grateful that I’m still just as much in love with creating stories and escaping to magical worlds as I was when I was 7,8,9,10 (and onwards) years old! I don’t know if I’ll ever grow out of story telling (I swear I come up with new ideas almost every other day—of which I write each and every one down). In a weird way, it keeps me sane, AND I get to share my adventures with YOU!! Which is the best part of it all 😊
Anyways, here is the full podcast where Aaron and I rambled for 30 minutes about random things. It’s fun and I probably swore way too much (sorry for that truckers mouth 😮💨 and sorry to Aaron who had to edit them all out XD) so, enjoy!!
Be weird and shameless!! 😊 Life is too short to conform to other peoples expectations of normalcy. And what even is normal anyways? It’s a made up word!! Let’s just be ourselves and be happy in knowing that we are being true to US, not someone else!! ❤️ Okay, rant over….😆
